The O’Hare Bag

Written by WLE

Named after Chicago's airport, our beloved classic has maintained its status as a top seller for over a decade. Let's delve into its design.

To truly grasp the essence of the O'Hare, one must revisit WANT Les Essentiels' founding principle: a quest for products of unparalleled quality capable of accommodating both professional and personal essentials for our modern daily lives. It embodies a fusion of form and function at a more accessible price point than traditional luxury items.

Following the success of the laptop briefcase (Lesage) and the weekender bag (Charleroi), there was still one piece missing: the perfect tote...

In 2012, after more than four years of observation and research, the O'Hare made its debut. Streamlined, spacious, elegant, and multifunctional, its appeal immediately resonated with both men and women, swiftly becoming our bestseller. It adorned the arms of numerous fashion industry personalities, including Tan France, Scott Schuman, and Nick Wooster.

The O'Hare was also crafted in a mini version and subsequently offered in organic cotton, recycled nylon, italian nylon and leather.

Over the years, our tote has been featured prominently in key international publications, such as GQ, Travel + Leisure, Business of Fashion, Monocle, Vanity Fair, Wallpaper, Hypebeast, and Gentlewoman, earning accolades as a classic or – as Vogue aptly stated – a piece “intended to seamlessly move from the office to the theater, to cocktails and dinner, and beyond.”

Among all our models, the O'Hare has undergone the most transformations and variations and has been the subject of many collaborations:

In 2012, a limited capsule collection exclusive to Mr PORTER was launched for the London Olympics.

In 2013, it’s made in a buttery leather for a collaboration with J.Crew.

In 2015, the O’Hare featured prints imagined by Liberty London.

In 2017, our O’Hare was distributed, along with other WANT Les Essentiels pieces, at the NoMad Hotel in New York.

In 2019, an exclusive collection, personally selected by Fashion Editor Bruce Pask, debuted at Bergdorf Goodman’s B. store, showcasing the O’Hare in dark denim and ripstop nylon.

In 2022, a limited-edition patchwork of upcycled denim was launched, quickly selling out.

What's new in 2024? To symbolize WANT's renewal, its interior construction has been completely revamped, with several practical and aesthetic details added:

We've added a reinforced interior pocket capable of accommodating a 15'' laptop, in addition to another zippered interior pocket and two slip pockets.

Comfort is enhanced with a wider removable strap.

Durability and structural integrity is increased with the smooth leather base.

The updated WANT Les Essentiels signature logo and the incorporation of the arch shape into the design now embody our major theme for the new classics.
