The crowded terminal, a taxi slowed in traffic,

the red-eye flight. At times, traveling may seem like a long, harried race to the finish. And then suddenly, inspiration strikes. Dusk shimmers as the fading sun backlights an undiscovered skyline. Vivid colors pop from the florist setting up her corner market. Strangers become new friends over a late-night dinner in a new city. Every trip contains the seeds of magic. A journey can be the moment when we step outside of ourselves, shift our perception, open our minds, and deeply consider what is important. Indeed, travel is just as much about the journey as it is the destination. It is the greatest and most subtle luxury, and it is the driving force behind WANT Les Essentiels.

craft: Launched in 2006 by Byron and Dexter Peart, the label's perfectly crafted accessories are designed to transform each journey—whether crossing continents or dashing to your daily commute—into a smooth and stylish procession. "Our goal has been to look at all of the needs of people in motion and figure out how we could better their experiences," says co-founder Byron Peart. From streamlined weekenders to modern briefcases to backpacks and accessories, WANT Les Essentiels fills the gap in the modern traveler's arsenal by offering timeless pieces that place equal value on fashion and function. Motivated in part by the new reality of travel, in which electronics are profoundly important, each bag in the collection provides safe and convenient storage for smartphones, tablets or laptops along with all of life's other essentials.

inspiration: The collection is deeply inspired by architecture and design. Classic and visionary work such as the Series 7 chair, by Danish architect Arne Jacobsen, inform the benchmark of quality the brand holds itself to. "I ask myself all the time about products like this," says co-founder Dexter Peart. "Our parents thought it was perfection, and now I think it is perfection, and my kids are going to think it is perfection. Why is that?" The answer, he believes, is that the object holds its beauty and strength over time while maintaining its relevance. "That's a much harder challenge than trying to make something that's only fashionable." And with this in mind, they have created pieces that work together using materials and craftsmanship that will last for decades. The bags, wallets and bracelets are made from top-grade Italian calf leather and Turkish organic cotton. All bags feature the WANT Les Essentiels signature two-tone zipper, custom-fabricated by Japanese manufacturer YKK using its best components.

considered design: As you explore each product, you will uncover thoughtful design elements, such as fine leather on the hidden base of a bag, magnetic front pockets for easy access, or bias-cut pockets for business cards within a briefcase. There is a sense of discovery, and a sense of stepping away from the norm. Just as travel can give you space to reflect, these products distill careful thought about the smallest things – which in the moment can make all the difference. It's the same magic that can come with the experience of travel. And in that respect WANT Les Essentiels looks to the past – to how international travel felt in the 1960s, when people traveled the world with a sense of occasion. "Back then, there was a refinement to the experience, and it's not superficial," Byron Peart says. "It's also how seriously considered you are about your travel."

details: In order to consider each detail of the traveller's experience, WANT Les Essentiels maintains a tight focus to its product line. "We are making things that need to exist," says Byron Peart, "things that are useful, things that function well, with quality materials and construction that delivers value." Each detail is purposeful. Silhouettes are both chic and utilitarian. Materials are meticulously sourced. Design is relevant and sustainable. Touches like these not only create more space and convenience in day-to-day life, but also restore a sense of refinement when traveling. WANT Les Essentiels redefines each journey as an occasion worth dressing for.
